MEPC grants final approval

It is with great pleasure we can announce that the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) at its 64’th session from 1’st to 5’th October 2012 decided to grant Final Approval to DESMI Ocean Guard. This is an important milestone which means that the DESMI Ocean Guard system has been duly scrutinized in order to assess any potential risks to environment, ship or crew arising from the installation and use of our system.

Lloyd’s Register evaluation of our Type Approval application can now enter its final stage and we expect the Type Approval certificate to be issued during October 2012. With this approval in hand the DESMI Ocean Guard ballast water treatment system is fully certified.

We look very much forward to servicing the industry with our ballast water treatment system. We already note a sincere interest in our system from several owners and yards. Particularly the fact that DESMI Ocean Guard remains the only manufacturer of a UV based system which has been tested according to IMO guidelines also in freshwater raises a lot of interest as, in fact, many of the world’s major ports are located at river estuaries with fresh- or brackish water conditions.

We remain at your disposal in case you need further clarification, and we will keep you informed of any new developments.
